A City with Shared Heritage
"Where the times meet" in the cultural space of the Bulgarian city and the part of history in building its future – that will be the major focus in the concept of Bulgarian participation in Expo Shanghai 2010. The exposition will create an impressive image of Bulgaria to reveal the relation between the tradition and our future project. The cultural heritage presentation will be redefined through its relation with the present.
The exposition will be based on the idea to present the preserved and valued unique history, culture and art of the Bulgarian cities. Cities inhabited by various ethnic groups who work together to build their future on the foundation of their traditions and history.
A key element of the presentation will be the combination of the historic and cultural heritage with the modern lifestyle of the people in the Bulgarian city, with their values and dreams for the future. The contrasts will outline a vivid, remarkable and memorable image of Bulgaria.
The resources and images for developing the project will come from the historic and archeological sites, architecture, cultural traditions, customs and rituals remodeled to fit the logic of the modern world. The exposition will try to go beyond the idealized images of the past. Bulgarian city cultural heritage will be treated not like a museum exhibit but as a cultural practice and a value, which has become characteristic of Bulgarian way of life.
