12 cultural layers come to life in the exposition of Bulgaria
The exhibits reveal interesting elements from the ancient culture in Bulgarian lands where over 12 cultural layers coexist. Two screens embedded in stone walls provide thematic information.
The ancient history of Bulgaria is represented by archaeological items displayed under a glass floor to create the impression of original excavations. Thracian gold treasures and mosaics from the Roman Empire will be featured through photographs and artifacts in the zone of Antiquity.
The passage to the zone of Medieval and Revival periods in Bulgarian lands is natural. The Bulgarian Revival corner comprises the most fascinating elements of a city square from a period that plays a key role in the development of Bulgarian architecture. The prototype for the presentation in this zone is a masterpiece in our national architecture - the "Lyutov House", built in 1854 in the city of Koprivshtitsa.
The house is well-known for its amazing architecture, numerous wall frescoes and wooden carved ceilings. It features architectural elements, which are not typical for other countries' architecture, such as the yoke, the bow windows, the big eaves and the covered balcony called "chardak".
At the opposite end of the square, a corner is to display unique items related to Bulgarian lifestyle. The visitors will have the opportunity to view the exhibits and at the same time enjoy the folklore performances under the "chardak".
A corridor leads from the square to the exit where the visitor can see films about the contemporary Bulgarian architecture and posters of future buildings.

"City of Shared Heritage" to Show the Past and the Future
The Bulgaria Pavilion presents in an original way the theme of Expo 2010 "Better City, Better Life" involving the traditions of its past. The exposition features the theme " City of Shared Heritage". The creative exterior solutions and exhibits highlight the transformation of the urban space during different cultural epochs.
Bulgaria's exposition at Expo 2010 focuses on the interaction of times and the role of history in the urban development of the Bulgarian cities, the reflection of the rich cultural and historical heritage, the traditions and vision for the future. These are the benchmarks of Bulgaria's presentation at Expo 2010.
The image of the ancient and yet modern country is to be illustrated by linking past civilizations to present-day urban environment. As a mirror of the nation, the city is also home to the people who create the present and the future. Showing the Bulgarian city, we intend to present the Bulgarians, learning from the past and planning for the future.
In Bulgaria, urban areas have always been the focal point of different ethnic and cultural communities, who build up the future on the foundation of their traditions and history. The exhibition visualizes the spirit of Antiquity and the distinctive style of the Bulgarian house from the National Revival Period, applied even nowadays to enhance the comfortableness at home.
Visitors could enjoy a virtual walk around the streets of a Bulgarian city alongside ancient architectural monuments.
